Your fundamental rights as a citizen and taxpayer of the state of Rhode Island and your local community have never been more dangerously threatened than they are now by the actions of leaders of the East Providence teachers’ union. If the demands of the teachers’ union in East Providence are upheld by the State Labor Relations Board (SLRB), it will likely force the City into bankruptcy. It will mean that any School Committee in the State, after the expiration of a contract and the failure of contract negotiations, cannot act to pay teachers the salary and benefits required to prevent deficit spending, even to the point of bankrupting the municipality and its school system, and in spite of state and local spending caps.
